Aww, the joys of chasing a mobile child! Baby proofing is an on-going task that is only going to get more complicated as C-baby starts understanding what he is really capable of doing. For now, I purchased this safety kit (as seen above) from Walmart for $8 and the process has seriously begun.
The stairs are more of a nightmare than expected, but over time they will be less of a danger. These safety gates aren't exactly what we wanted to do, but the ones the interest us the most are so freakin' expensive, that we just have to make it work. We have another baby gate that gets set up at the very top of the stairs, but only when we are hanging out up there together. The other issue is the railings. My head can fit through most of the gaps, so we are planning on just buying some more 2x2 boards, painting them and placing them in the gaps so that we don't have to worry about any kid falling through them. (Oh my that would be so scary, and bad!)
First order of cabinet locking was under the sink in the kitchen. Joel, being the master of the tools in our house, installed the latches. We only have about 5 or 6 more cabinets to go...
Another tool I have learned to use is to make sure things are picked up. This is a very useful tool because you are not only living in a semi-clean house, but your babe wont go putting things in his/her mouth that shouldn't be there.

Oh the joys of babyproofing. Luckily we did that before our furniture even arrived upon moving into our house and kept baby safety in mind as we unpacked and placed furniture.
You're on the right track, we bought the same kit. LOL. I do have to say, because I learned this the hard way, you may want to reconsider that gate. That is a GREAT doorway gate but not a safe top-of-stairway gate. We used to have it too and watched our friends son accidentally fall into it (not at our house, luckily). The gate came undone because it's not mounted to the wall and he rolled ALL THE WAY down their stairs and had to go to the ER. It was scary.
